The Professional Associations Research Network (PARN) has set up a special CPD Network so that people with a practical or professional interest in Continuing Professional Development can share knowledge and network.

Members of PARN are automatically registered as CPD Network participants. Non-member organisations or individuals can become registered for a fee.   CPD Network offers participants:

    * Access to specialised CPD area on the PARN website via a personalised login (forthcoming)
    * Subscription to CPD Spotlight, PARN's monthly newsletter about CPD
    * Discounts on CPD events organised by PARN (equivalent to the members' discount)
    * Discounts for CPD Network participants on PARN CPD research publications (equivalent to the members' discount)
    * Opportunities to interact with other people working in CPD via the facilitated e-mail enquiry network.

For further details about the CPD Network, contact PARN. E-mail: info@parn.org.uk .   Past issues of PARN's CPD Spotlight newsletter can be downloaded from www.parn.org.uk

The Institute of Continuing Professional Development says that CPD is: '...the systematic maintenance and improvement, of knowledge, skills and competence, and the enhancement of learning undertaken throughout an individual's working life.'

CPD is now essential for all sorts of professionals - from proofreaders to insurance brokers to brain surgeons - because we are all operating in a world where knowledge is the key to success. Professional bodies, educational and training establishments, employers' organisations and trade unions need to find ways of measuring their members' competence.

The Institute of CPD was created as a cross-professional forum to promote the importance of CPD, and to encourage all professions keep their training up to date.
